The Entertainer by Scott Joplin (c. 1868–1917). Piano rag, 1902.
- Ragtime is "ragged" time: the right hand syncopates over a steady oom-pah left hand.
- Joplin was called the King of Ragtime. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1976, long after his death.
- It became a hit all over again in the 1973 film The Sting.
