Sound to notation
Hear a short phrase, then choose its score. Focus on pitch or rhythm, one at a time.
Three notes: rising, falling or repeating
Listen and learn
Notes higher on the staff sound higher. Middle C sits on the short ledger line below the treble staff. Both answer scores start on the same note, so follow the movement rather than guessing an absolute pitch.
C, D, E: the notes rise.
C, D, C: the last note returns lower.

Frequently asked questions
How do Pitch and Rhythm modes differ?
Pitch mode uses three to six notes in C4–G4 with identical quarter-note rhythms and the same starting note in both scores. The demonstration teaches middle C’s ledger line. Rhythm mode uses one pitch throughout and complete 4/4 bars, with a four-beat count-in and quiet beat clicks at 80 beats per minute. Higher levels introduce paired eighth notes and quarter rests. Combined pitch-and-rhythm questions are not included.
Can I replay without losing points?
Yes. Replay the question as often as you need. Only one answer is scored for each question; feedback stays until you press Next. Sound-to-notation answer scores can be played only after answering, so the task remains sound-to-notation matching.
How long is a session?
Each session has ten untimed questions. Select the level yourself; there is no forced learning path or automatic advancement. The summary shows correct first answers, not mastery. Major or minor also separates results by chord quality.
Do I need an account?
No. The tool is public. When browser storage is available, answers are recorded locally for the Mistake Notebook. They are not synchronized to an account or another device. Playback uses the shared Salamander sampled grand piano and needs sample loading. Escape, switching levels and hiding the page stops sound.
